Building Stronger Connections Through Meaningful Conversations at ISG Dammam

Throughout this academic year, ISG Dammam faculty focused their Professional Growth Plan on a powerful idea inspired by Kyle Schwartz's book I Wish My Teacher Knew: How One Question Can Change Everything for Our Kids. Centered on listening to student voices and gaining a deeper understanding of their experiences, the initiative encouraged teachers to strengthen the relationships that form the foundation of meaningful learning.

The guiding question from the book invited students to share their thoughts, perspectives and personal experiences with their teachers. These conversations provided valuable insights into students' lives, helping educators better understand the factors that influence learning, engagement and wellbeing. By creating opportunities for students to be heard, teachers were able to build stronger connections and foster more supportive classroom environments.

Throughout the year, this relationship-centered approach reinforced the importance of empathy, trust, compassion and authentic communication in education. Teachers gained a deeper appreciation for the diverse experiences their students bring to the classroom, while students benefited from knowing that their voices mattered and their experiences were valued.

To celebrate the culmination of this learning journey, students and teachers gathered for a special session focused on connection and community. Through board games, shared snacks and meaningful conversations, participants had the opportunity to strengthen relationships in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The gathering served as both a celebration of the year and a reflection of the relationships that had been nurtured along the way.

This Professional Growth Plan highlighted a simple yet powerful truth: when students feel known, understood and valued, learning becomes more meaningful. As we reflect on the year, we are proud of the connections that have been built across our school community and grateful for the many conversations that have strengthened the bonds between students and teachers.
