A Week of Student-Led Celebrations at BSD

This week was a meaningful and engaging one at British School Dhahran, with students taking an active role in celebrating World Clean Up Day, World Peace Day and International Gratitude Day, supported and guided by their teachers. 

On World Clean Up Day, students were encouraged to take greater responsibility for their shared environment, particularly in the cafeteria, by clearing and wiping their tables, sweeping up any food from the floor and pushing in their chairs before leaving. Staff supported students in developing these positive habits and recognised those who demonstrated responsibility and care for their surroundings. 

To mark World Peace Day, form classes took part in a creative activity by making origami doves, which were collected after form on Tuesday and displayed in the school entrance as a visual representation of peace, unity and hope. Teachers provided the necessary materials and guided students through the activity, allowing them to work at their own pace. 

International Gratitude Day provided another opportunity for students to reflect on the people, experiences and positive moments in their lives. Through age-appropriate classroom discussions, videos, stories and activities, students explored the importance of gratitude and wellbeing and shared what they were thankful for. As part of National Literacy Month, the Compassion Committee also organised a Book Swap for Senior School students, giving them the opportunity to exchange books they had already enjoyed for new books to discover and read. 

Together, these activities provided valuable opportunities for students to develop responsibility, kindness, appreciation and a strong sense of community, while demonstrating how student-led action, supported by our dedicated teachers and student committees, can make a positive difference across the BSD community.
