SVS STUDENTS CELEBRATE WORLD BOOK DAY WITH CREATIVITY AND FUN
SVS students and staff came together for an unforgettable World Book Day celebration, filled with creativity, imagination, and a shared love for reading. The day kicked off with a vibrant costume parade, where students proudly showcased their favorite book characters.
The celebration continued with a variety of engaging activities that brought stories to life. Students were mixed into themed teams—The Bookworms, The Authors, The Book Reviewers, The Narrators, The Storytellers, and The Readers—allowing them to collaborate with peers across different grades.
Throughout the day, students participated in interactive storytelling sessions, book hunts, creative writing challenges, and artistic projects inspired by beloved books like Shark in the Dark, Froggy Day, and Paddington Bear. They designed book covers and crafted original stories and performances, and each activity encouraged students to embrace their love of reading in new and exciting ways.
World Book Day not only celebrated literature but was also a day filled with creativity, inspiration and collaboration
Reflecting on the day, students shared their enthusiasm:
- “Believe in yourself, even if no one else does. Books teach us this!”
- “Being Harry Potter for the day was magical!”
- “My favorite activity was creating my book cover. Books can be created by anyone—as long as you believe, you can write.”
BRITISH SCIENCE WEEK AT SVS
Sara Village School celebrated its first British Science Week with an exciting array of interactive activities centered around the theme Change and Adapt.
Students explored transformation and adaptation in the natural world through hands-on experiments, discussions and special presentations. A highlight of the week was the Cosmic Dome, where students enjoyed a fascinating science show and had the opportunity to meet professionals working in STEM fields.
Year groups across the school engaged in creative scientific investigations.
Year 4 students had fun making ice cream using salt and ice to explore states of matter.
Year 3 students examined wastewater treatment and the effects of flushing different materials, concluding that only toilet paper disintegrates safely. They also conducted a glacier experiment, observing how ice melts and shapes landscapes.
Year 2 participated in a camouflage experiment by hiding wool caterpillars in the school garden and later worked in teams to build paper chain caterpillars. In music class, students explored the physics of sound, creating water glockenspiels and observing sound waves in action.
Throughout the week, students had the privilege of hearing from STEM professionals, including Mrs. Brady, who shared insights into her career in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering, inspiring students to consider future careers in science and engineering. Mr. Thorpe captivated younger students with hands-on demonstrations of forces such as thrust and lift, using balloons and paper to illustrate key principles of aerodynamics.
British Science Week at SVS was a tremendous success, sparking curiosity and excitement among students. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff and guest speakers who helped make this an unforgettable experience!
