American School Dhahran Inducts 27 Students into NHS

This week, American School Dhahran proudly inducted 27 new members into its National Honor Society (NHS). These students were selected through a rigorous application process, where 108 high school students with a weighted cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher (34 in IB) were invited to apply. The application required students to submit a completed form, an essay and three teacher recommendations.

Selection into the NHS is not simply based on academic achievement; the Faculty Council evaluates each candidate’s demonstration of the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, character and service. These pillars are the foundation of the National Honor Society, aiming to support a passion for learning, develop strong character, encourage leadership and promote responsible citizenship through service to both school and community.

The induction ceremony, a memorable event for students and families alike, featured a special moment when parents had the honor of pinning the official NHS pin on their children. This symbolic gesture officially marked the students' membership and emphasized the significant role of family support in achieving academic and personal success.

The ceremony concluded with a beautiful lighting of candles, each representing one of the NHS pillars. As the candles were lit, it reminded everyone of the commitment required of NHS members to uphold these values and lead by example, both in school and beyond.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Edwin Segbefia and Ms. Vernice Salamanca for their dedication to supporting our students and making this ceremony a success. The event was not only a celebration of achievement but also a lasting memory for the students and their families.

Congratulations to all of our new NHS members! We look forward to seeing the incredible contributions you will make in the future.
