Dr. Truman, founder of the Truman Group, recently visited ISG Jubail to lead an interactive and engaging session with parents on the important topic of mental health and how to support their children. The session facilitated a mutual conversation, where parents shared their concerns about balancing academic success, managing emotions and building resilience in their children. Topics like handling motivation, frustration and the challenge of balancing personal and academic life were also discussed.
Dr. Truman stressed the importance of focusing on what children are striving for, rather than being preoccupied with the conventional idea of "success." He emphasized that it's essential to nurture their personal growth and emotional well-being.
During the session, Dr. Truman also shared insights from a survey conducted across seven international schools, involving more than 300 students. The survey measured levels of depression and anxiety—two mental health issues that have seen a sharp increase in children. Dr. Truman explained that the survey results revealed no correlation between increased rates of anxiety and depression and social media use. He acknowledged the complexity of social media, pointing out that while it can be a source of stress, it can also be a valuable tool when used in moderation and the right way.
The session aimed to foster open-mindedness and a deeper understanding between parents and children, with Dr. Truman encouraging parents to reflect on where the root of distress or pressure might come from and how it affects both their children's mental health and their own.
Dr. Truman concluded by reassuring parents that there is always hope and with the right support and understanding, everything will be okay.
We’d like to extend our thanks to Dr. Truman for providing such an insightful and informative session, which left parents with valuable tools and perspectives on supporting their children’s mental health.
