On May 8, elementary students completed two exciting and enriching units that highlighted their creativity, critical thinking and growing communication skills. These projects provided meaningful opportunities for students to connect academic learning with self-expression and real-world understanding.
Students participated in an integrated unit titled “Exploring Communities Through Time.” This interdisciplinary project combined science, social studies, reading and writing to help students investigate weather, climate and global communities. They researched different countries, examining how climate influences daily life and cultural traditions.
Using what they learned, students designed imaginative living compounds tailored to the environment and needs of new families relocating to those regions. Their thoughtful designs reflected an understanding of geography, climate science and cultural empathy.
In reading and writing, students then immersed themselves in the world of poetry. They studied a variety of poetic forms and devices, learning how to craft their own original poems. Their writing reflected thoughtful observation, playful language and personal voice.
As a culminating project, students proudly published their poems on individual poetry websites, sharing their creativity with classmates, families and the wider school community.
