Exploring Sound Waves at Ithra with ISG Jubail Elementary
SHARE
On May 15, ISG Jubail elementary students went on an exciting field trip to Ithra, deepening their understanding of concepts from our recent science unit, Waves of Sound. This unit focused on helping students explore what sound is and how it travels.
Through a variety of hands-on investigations and interactive lessons, students discovered that sound is produced by vibrations that move in waves through different materials—solids, liquids and gases. They used simple tools like tuning forks, rubber bands, string telephones and tablets to observe and even feel these vibrations, bringing the concept of sound waves to life.
As part of their learning, students observed that sound travels faster through solids than through air, and they explored how our ears detect and interpret sound waves.
At Ithra, students applied their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting. They interacted with physical devices that allowed them to feel sound vibrations and used digital tools to visualize how different sound waves produce the variety of sounds we hear. These hands-on experiences reinforced their understanding that sound travels in waves.
Beyond science, the field trip gave students the chance to create lasting memories and an experience that combined learning with fun and discovery.
