ISG Jubail IBDP Students Explore Urban Environments on Geography Field Trip

ISG Jubail’s IBDP Geography students participated in a field trip focused on analyzing urban environments and urban stress. The trip took them to two contrasting locations—Jubail City Center (JCC) and Fanateer—where they applied classroom knowledge to real-world urban issues as part of their Internal Assessment (IA).

Students applied their knowledge and collected primary data through various geographical field techniques, such as air quality monitoring, pedestrian and traffic flow surveys, noise level assessments and land use mapping. These activities allowed students to develop critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of urban planning, sustainability and environmental quality.

The field trip, led by Mr. Brad Dugan and Mr. Sanjeev Jangra, was an excellent opportunity for inquiry-based learning, allowing students to connect theoretical concepts with practical research. Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing surprise at the differences between the two locations and appreciating the hands-on learning experience. Overall, the trip reinforced their understanding of urbanization and provided valuable insights into real-world geographical issues.
