ISG Jubail Students Attend Cuban-Khaleeji Concert in Ithra

On Thursday, November 23, 33 ISG Jubail and 30 American School Dhahran students in middle school and high school attended the Cuban-Khaleeji Project concert at Ithra.

The concert consisted of a performance along with education about the instruments being played, the different styles of music being performed and even included audience participation.

ISG Jubail students were inspired by how easily the music came together with just a few instruments, and with lead musician Arturo O'Farrill’s final message that music ultimately comes from inside a person and that it is important to tell a story with music.  One student was also invited on stage to perform a small jazz scat with the lead musician and the ensemble.

Attending concerts and observing other musicians play is crucial for students studying music as it offers real-world exposure and practical insights.  That is why, at ISG Jubail, we welcome every opportunity to expose our students to music concerts.

Live performances are a sensory experience that goes one step further than what can be learned in the classroom.  Students witness the application of techniques, gain a deeper understanding of musical expression for the nuances of performance.  Exposure to different genres and styles broadens their musical understanding, inspiring creativity and innovation in their own work.  Additionally, seeing seasoned musicians in action can serve as a powerful source of motivation, setting high standards and encouraging students to refine their skills.

At ISG Jubail, we believe that attending concerts enhances a student’s musical education by bridging the gap between theory and practice, fostering a more comprehensive and enriched understanding of the art form.
