Celebrating Creativity Through the Design Show at ISG Jubail

Over the past few weeks, middle school students at ISG Jubail worked diligently on a series of creative projects that reflected their understanding of design principles and their growing confidence as young artists. On May 18, their efforts came together in a colorful and inspiring Design Show organized by Mrs. Maria Khan, where families, students and teachers gathered to celebrate the thoughtful and imaginative work on display.
The event featured a wide variety of student-made art and design pieces, each one unique and personal. From bold patterns to expressive materials, the room was filled with energy and creativity.
One of the first projects displayed was a collection of vibrant tie-dye shirts. Each shirt was handcrafted and reflected the student’s personality through color choices and patterns. These wearable artworks brought joy to the runway and stood as individual expressions of style and artistic freedom.
Students also explored the world of wearable art through a creative headgear project. They were encouraged to think beyond traditional materials and use items such as cardboard, fabric, wire, paper and paint to build original and expressive designs. The result was a collection of imaginative and often whimsical headpieces that captured attention and highlighted student ingenuity.
As part of a weaving unit, students created handmade coasters. Through this project, they explored color combinations, patterns and the fundamentals of textile art. The finished pieces reflected careful craftsmanship and an appreciation for detail.
In their final project, students worked with a variety of art techniques and materials to create mixed media artworks. They combined skills such as drawing, shading, painting, clay modeling, printmaking, weaving and plaster gauze mask-making to build layered and thoughtful pieces. Throughout the process, students learned how different techniques can be used together to express emotions and stories. Each artwork was a reflection of the artist’s choices and growing confidence.
During the event, visitors had the chance to speak with the student artists and hear firsthand about their creative journeys. Families and teachers gained insight into the thought process behind each piece and learned more about the techniques students explored during the semester.
The Design Show gave students the opportunity to share their voices through art and allowed the school community to come together to support and appreciate the creative spirit at ISG Jubail.
Thank you to our art teacher, Mrs. Maria Khan, for guiding our students in developing their craftsmanship and creative growth. We also extend our gratitude to the teachers and staff who supported the event behind the scenes and helped make the Design Show a success.
