Dear ISG Community,
I am proud to announce that this week, Sara Village School joined The Alliance of Sustainable Schools (TASS) and signed the Charter! This means SVS is committed to becoming a more sustainable school and will be working toward making their daily activities kinder to the planet. Leading the charge are their amazing student ambassadors: Azra from Year 6 and Salma from Year 4. They'll be working alongside the dedicated SVS Eco-Council from Year 5 and led by Ms. White to find new ideas and put them into action.
Our grade spotlight this week is on English in Grade 8 and Year 9 across ISG. At ISG, English instruction takes a multifaceted approach, seamlessly integrating analysis, comprehension and speaking skills. Students engage in deep dives into literary texts, honing their ability to extract meaning and identify literary devices. Through lively discussions and debates, they practice articulating their interpretations and opinions while meticulously searching for textual evidence to bolster their claims, fostering critical thinking and effective communication skills. Please click here to see how learning happens inside our classrooms.
On April 23, ISG invites you to a presentation and conversation with two clinical psychologists from the Truman Group, an online mental healthcare provider catering to expat families. They will share tips with parents on how to support their children in an ever-changing world. More information can be found here along with the biographies of the two psychologists. Please register by April 17 to attend at your school during the times listed below:

Between March 23-28, Sara Village School students participated in the COBIS Primary Games in Mombasa, Kenya, marking their debut in international sporting competition. It was an exhilarating experience for our students, filled with both athletic achievements and cultural enrichment.
The SVS team showcased their talent across various disciplines, earning accolades in track & field, swimming and football. Notably, they secured a bronze medal in the 400m race, a silver medal in the 50m freestyle swimming event and achieved a commendable 5th position out of 9 schools in football.
One of the most remarkable highlights of the event was when SVS was honored with the Fair Play Award at the Gala dinner. This unanimous recognition by all game officials, celebrated the exemplary sportsmanship and positive attitude displayed by our students throughout the competition. Their graciousness in victory and defeat, along with their efforts to forge friendships and integrate with fellow participants, truly embodied the spirit of the games.
Beyond the sporting arena, our students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture and biodiversity of Kenya. From cruising on a Dhow boat by the old town to exploring a wildlife park and meeting Masai tribespeople, each excursion offered valuable insights and memorable encounters. The hospitality and warmth extended by the local Kenyan community left a lasting impression on our students.
I would like to thank Jessica Arnzen and Richard Charlesworth for their invaluable role as chaperones during the trip. Their dedication and support ensured the success and safety of our students throughout the journey.
We are immensely proud of our SVS team for their achievements and commendable conduct, embodying the values of sportsmanship, respect and collaboration. Congratulations to all participants for representing Sara Village School with pride and distinction on the international stage.
I would like to remind you that ISG will be closed for Eid April 9-15, 2024. Classes will resume on April 16.
Best wishes,
Michael P. Mack
